Dr Emily McCann

Dr Emily McCann, Early Career Postdoctoral Reseach Fellow, Macquarie University.

Emily is an Early Career Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Genetics and Genomics Team within the multidisciplinary Centre for MND Research at Macquarie University. Her research career has been dedicated to unravelling the genetic basis of MND, including a Masters of Research (2014) and PhD (2019). In 2020, Emily was awarded the prestigious MND Research Australia Beryl Bayley Postdoctoral Research Fellowship.

Emily’s research combines her expertise in bioinformatics analysis of next-generation sequencing datasets together with various wet lab validation techniques for MND gene discovery. She has made significant contributions to the identification of both MND causal mutations and risk variants in several genes through her own research as well involvement in domestic and international collaborative efforts. Emily is currently investigating the contribution of structural, regulatory and polygenic variation to the underlying risk and phenotypic modification of MND.
